1 OFF Motorsports HID Basic FAQ's

Are 1 OFF Motorsports HID kits street legal?

The truth is, installing ANYTHING into a vehicle that was not originally equipped with them from the factory is technically illegal. This includes aftermarket exhaust, headers, and all types of modifications that the D.O.T did not test (and get paid) for. However, we are selling these kits for OFF Road, race and exhibition use only. 1 OFF Motorsports by no means encourage breaking the law, please use safely. There have been little to no verified accounts of anyone getting pulled over and cited just for having them on. 1 OFF Motorsports recommends that you make sure that you have the appropriate headlight assembly for your vehicle and that your headlights are properly aligned after installation. If you are again not comfortable please take it in to a professional.

Do the HID's run more efficiently than the OEM Halogens?

Yes, the halogens run at 55W, and the HID lights run at 35W. The HID's only need more power temporarily during start up.

How long will my 1 OFF Motorsports HID bulbs last?

When installed correctly 1 OFF Motorsports HID Xenon kits are designed to last 10X longer than halogen lights at around 3500 hours. The great news is, since we are so confident in our design and construction, and because we want you to enjoy the benefits for life, we offer a full lifetime guarantee on the bulbs. (This does not include water, improper installation or mistreatment of the bulb, must have receipt).

I am a good driver, do I really need HID's?

At night visibility is significantly reduced weather you are a good driver or not. Even the best drivers can only react and avoid what they see. 1 OFF Motorsports HID Xenon lights increase the field of vision, both down the road and to the sides of the road and thus create a much improved driving experience for everyone. Life is about rewarding yourself and doing whatever makes you happy. If you enjoy seeing better at night and making your vehicle look cooler and stand out while increasing your safety, but don't want to spend a fortune, then our 1 OFF Motorsports HID XLS system is for you. It never hurts to have a little more light, or have the light actually keep up with you when you are going close to 100 (on the track).. Our 1 OFF Motorsports HID XLS installs fast and is fully reversible and reasonably priced. It does not matter if you are a good driver or bad, it never hurts to have more light and performance in your ride. Give us a try and if you are not 100% satisfied return it for a full refund.

I don't really use my high beams, can I just order the low beam HID's and leave the high beam stock?

Absolutely, most find out that it saves them money, and the low beam is more than enough light.

BMW Motorcycle HID FAQ's

Do l need to upgrade both my Lo Beam and Hi Beam in my BMW bike?

No, while 1 Off Motorsports offers HID light kits to upgrade your Hi and Lo Beams, alot of our customers are very happy with the light performance improvement they experience just from upgrading their Lo Beam lights on their bike. In fact, some prefer to leave their high beams Halogen because start instantly, where as HID lights take up to 5 seconds to start.

If I just want to buy the Lo beam light or lights, can l buy them from you?

Yes, 1 Off Motorsports offers Single and Dual bulb HID lights to upgrade just your Lo Beams. We are the only HID brand that caters to BMW Riders needs and sells HID lights specifically for BMW Motorcycles.

Why do I need a CANBUS Decoder module for my HID's?

1 OFF Motorsports Xenon HID lights runs on 35W, BMW motorcycles headlamp system runs on a 50W, because of this, when the CANBUS system runs a full diagnostic it believes that there is a problem with your headlight, cutting power to it, and turning your Light Out Warning on your dashboard on. Our CANBUS Decoder integrates with the with our Digital Ballast and your bikes CANBUS system; when powered on, the CANBUS will send a read to the headlamp, the decoder will intercept the signal and respond, this allows the bike to properly detect your upgraded HID light.

Installation FAQ's

Can I switch back to my stock bulbs after installing 1 OFF Motorsports HID kit?

Yes, our 1 OFF Motorsports HID Xenon conversion kit is 100% reversible. Our 1 OFF Motorsports HID Xenon conversion kit is a direct factory replacement that does not require any cutting splicing or major modification to the stock vehicle. It is 100% reversible and can be put back to stock by simply removing the 1 OFF Motorsports HID Xenon bulbs and ballasts and replacing it with the stock halogen bulbs.

How do I remove the HID Bulb from the plastic protector on it?

Get some pliers and crack it, it is on there for bulb protection. The base of the bulb is what is used for the housing. Be sure NOT to touch the bulb with your fingers.

If plug and play, where do I stow the ballast and how do I route the wires?

There is multiple ways to go about this. Every bike model will be different, but our written installation instructions will give an example ( not the the only way) on where to mount the ballast and mount the wires. The ballasts can be mounted anywhere within a foot of the headlight with the double sided sticky tape (included in the kit) and the wires and be held down with zip ties.

Are modification necessary when installing 1 Off Motorsports HID lights?

We are working on specific written installation instructions for every bike model since the installation process will slightly vary from bike to bike. There is very minor modification. If the install directions that we will show online are followed properly, the installation process will be mostly plug and play and only take 20-30 minutes of your time.

Can I install the kit myself?

If you have basic technical skills and can remember how you took something apart you should be able to install this yourself. I am no mechanic wiz and I did not have trouble doing the install. If you can remove your stock halogen bulb and a faring you are good to go. Our kit is a full plug and play application that is a direct factory replacement. We have done all of the research and design to make this kit very simple to install. The only real "challenge" is finding a good place to mount the 1 OFF Motorsports slim digital ballast. You can mount it inside of a faring or under the windscreen of your R1 (how installed them on my bike). Check out our HOW TO: Install our 1 OFF Motorsports HID conversion kit and see if you are comfortable doing it. BY ALL MEANS if you are no good with mechanics or do not feel confident doing it, please take it somewhere and have a licensed professional install it. When you install it right, you will see what all the hype is about and you will never ride without 1 OFF Motorsports HID's again. Ride safe

In order to plug your harness into the bike's stock connector (the black thing which normally connects to the prongs of the OEM H-7 halogen bulb), I would obviously have to remove the the round protective cap on the back of the headlight assembly. With al

You have to drill a 1 inch hole in the cap, run the connectors out through it, & the sealed rubber grommet snaps into place, sealing the headlight. This is where some additional silicone may be added as a precautionary measure. Then screw the cap back on as normal.

Troubleshooting

One of my headlights does not work

The first thing you check is the wiring, make sure that everything is still plugged in. If installing for the first time, check the power and ground wire because some vehicles have a reversed power and ground connection. You can check this by switching the power and the ground wire(coming from the ballast) that plugs into the stock wiring harness. If that does nothing, one of the head light bulbs or ballast might have malfunctioned. Bulbs have a limited life that depends on the number of hours of use, and how much vibration they have been subjected to over time. The more nighttime driving you do, the sooner one or both headlights will fail. A typical automotive incandescent headlamp (halogen or regular) has a service life that may range from 600 to as much as 2000 hours of use.

The best way to make test to see if the bulb has gone bad is to replace the bad bulb with the working bulb on the opposite side. If the bulb comes on you need to replace the bad bulb. If that does not ignite the bulb then you need to test the ballast.

The Fix: Replace the burned out bulb, or ballast.
